Manufacturing Jobs in Australia

The Manufacturing Job Market in Australia

The Australian manufacturing industry has traditionally been a significant contributor to the country’s economy, although its share of GDP has decreased over the years. But with a commitment to innovation and a focus on research and development (R&D) activities, the manufacturing industry is moving with the times and emerging as a major contributor to the Australian economy. Australia has a diverse manufacturing industry that includes:

  • Food and beverages
  • Tobacco products
  • Textiles, leather, clothing and footwear
  • Wood, pulp and paper products
  • Printed goods
  • Chemical products
  • Metal and plastics manufacturing
  • Machinery and equipment
  • Furniture and household goods

The manufacturing industry accounts for 48% of exports and 45% of Australian research and development. The chemical industry is also present in Australia including the manufacture of many petrochemicals. Many mining companies such as BHP and Comalco perform initial processing of raw materials. While the manufacturing career in Australia is not as lucrative as several other industries, professionals with exceptional skills can find a profitable position for themselves.

Like several industries within the Australian market, the manufacturing industry has been dealing with issues related to workforce skills, attracting and retaining talent, and addressing potential labour shortages. That’s why there is an increased demand for skilled and experienced labour from across the world. So, if you have been planning to build a manufacturing career in Australia, navigating through this challenging landscape while finding the best opportunities could be a difficult task.
